The surface grinder / tool room operator will work independently to grind product to finish dimensions from raw material.
Duties
- Run multiple surface grinders simultaneously to grind parts according to print.
- Read and follow work router to perform correct tasks
- Prepare stock to be ground by cutting blanks from bar using horizontal band saw
- Inspect parts to print using indicators, micrometers, calipers
- Deburr parts using sanding machines and rotary tumblers
- Perform steel hardening and heat treat cycles using induction coil, freezers, ovens, quench tank
- Run drill press and the gun drill.
- Perform basic maintenance on machines (coolant level, cleaning): report issues requiring engineering or maintenance support.
- Drive company vehicle to drop off / pick up material from vendors
- Move material in facility using pallet jack or tow motor
- Report defects or irregularities to senior machinists or supervisors.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of shop safety practices.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Good vision or corrected vision for close-up, distance, color and peripheral work
